Why Choose Sterling Silver?

Why Choose Sterling Silver?

So you've been saving up your $$$ and want to buy a nice piece of authentic jewellery that will last.  But what metal will you choose?  The 2 choices that may come to mind are gold and silver.

I'm Nate from Moi Customs and will provide a couple reasons why sterling silver might be the choice for you.  I always liked gold and have some in my personal collection, but with the rising inflation in the world right now, it seems to be getting more expensive to purchase a simple piece with a reasonable weight to it, even in 10k gold.  Here is where silver enters the picture.  I always appreciated sterling silver and have had many pieces throughout the years, so I looked into silver and its benefits, which I will share with you here:

1> Price:  Because raw silver is the cheaper metal vs gold right now, it costs less for the manufacturer to buy.  If you can find a decent jeweller who offers a good, low price for 10k gold right now, it is probably in the $50 CAD/gram range right now, at the lowest. Sterling Silver, on the other hand, you can find at prices as low as $5 CAD/gram at a few different places, and here at Moi Customs, the pricing is even lower, starting at $3 CAD/gram!  You can imagine, especially with heavier chains and pieces how the price difference between the same piece in sterling silver and gold can quickly add up.  Sterling Silver offers an affordable option to get that solid piece you desire.

2> Look:  Yellow gold had a popularity increase some years ago, but right now in 2023, it seems like the "white gold" or "silver" look is what a lot of people want.  Now, besides the price difference and white gold being more expensive, a reason to choose silver because of the look is that silver is stated to be "the whitest and brightest of all precious metals" by different sources.  So if you're looking for that white, bright shiny silver colour, a nicely polished sterling silver piece may be the right choice for you.

Of course, an issue many people bring up is that silver can tarnish, and that is a huge turnoff to many when considering it.   However, tarnish can be removed and sterling silver can be cleaned pretty quickly right from your home with a few simple ingredients.  Look out for the guide on how to clean sterling silver jewellery, coming soon!
